UCL Horizons
Presented by UCL200
Join us at UCL East for a spectacular celebration marking the close of UCL's bicentennial year.
For 200 years, UCL has challenged convention, advanced knowledge and shaped the future. On 2 December, we come together for one final moment as we mark the beginning of UCL’s third century.
UCL Horizons: evening sessions builds towards an unforgettable finale. Guests will be among the first to experience Helios, a breathtaking 9-metre artistic centrepiece of the sun, to hang above the atrium of Marshgate, accompanied by a specially commissioned performance. Members of the BBC Symphony Chorus, along with a choir from St Paul’s Way school, have joined forces with Sadler's Wells Academy Breakin' Convention and the Pandemonium Drummers to stage an unmissable multi-level performance of music and dance around the Helios illumination, welcoming in the dawn of UCL’s third century.
The performance time is approximately 20 minutes, after which Marshgate will be transformed into a hub of exploration, creativity and imagination.
There are two evening sessions. In the first session, we are thrilled that UCL alumna and award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Steph McGovern (UCL Science Communication and Policy BSc 2005), will be our compère. Following speeches, we will close the UCL200 time capsule before the performance begins. The second evening ‘Lates’ session will see a repeat of the performance, with the addition of a ‘club zone’ to celebrate the occasion together! Pay bars and food vendors will also be open within the building.
UCL Horizons is also offering a free afternoon session. To find out more, and register for the afternoon session, click here to visit the booking page.
