A Pattern Portrait of UCL

Artist in Residence for the Student Community, in Partnership with Student Union UCL, Lauren Godfrey invites you to experience the magic of the stage as you explore spectacular the hand-painted patterned backdrops created in collaboration with UCL students.
This event will give all a chance to step onto the Bloomsbury Theatre stage and encounter the paintings up close. Developed through workshops with students from across UCL, the backdrops form a large-scale pattern portrait inspired by their research interests and personal histories. Each pattern tells a unique story.
Painted on one of only a handful of traditional scenic paint frames in London, the project celebrates and revitalises the art of scenic painting for a new generation.
A special edition of the Pattern Portraits podcast plays throughout the installation, featuring UCL students reflecting on pattern. Visitors are welcome to stay, take a seat, and listen at their own pace.
This is an open event running from 11am until 4pm. You are welcome to drop in at any point, last entry will be at 3:45pm.
In busier periods, you may have to wait a few moments before you can go onto the stage due to limited capacity.
This event is open to all, students, staff and members of the public alike!
